Title says it all. UT used to work great under W10 but I'm 99.9% sure that a major update (the most recent major Version update, iirc, that Windows eventually FORCED me to install... ) is what killed it. Are there any workarounds? Running it in compatibility mode didn't work, nor did running UT in safe mode (it freezes upon starting a match).

UT99 has been running great - maybe even better now. Have you tried re-installing UT99? Doc Flay or other gurus - any advise here? Does anybody else have MajorTom's problem?

Not much experience with Win 10, but I agree that a full uninstall/reinstall might iron out compatibility issues.
If that fails, update your GPU drivers, as this can be affected by big OS updates.

I've never had a nice gesture to windows 10. It's slow, demanding and most of all, aggressive.
The way I will ever use windows 10 will be a forced way, or simply never. I hate it, it in the %^&^*( most way.
But to answer ontopic : have you tried compatibility mode(s)?

UT99 does run under 10 , I have been since windows 10 release. UT can be a bit uncooperative when it tries to start and Ill get a black screen. Ill have to kill it and then relaunch it and then it starts fine. Sometimes launching it as Administrator will work too. (right click game icon, run as administrator) I cant quite remember exactly at the moment but my issues had something to do with the UT's ini files being read from the Users, appdata, Local , location and not from the usual unrealtournament system directory. Windows 10 was doing some weird redirects to important files. Maybe this will point you in the right direction.

For Windows 10 UT99 missing some .dll for launch with not black screen it need other render ... my UT ave render set and dll coming with it and more more change for no lag ,adapted multi-corps processor etc ....

I've been trying to figure this out, but no luck so far. If it helps, the log file is below. I'm running an Acer Aspire AXC-704G-UW61 (with 8GB RAM instead of 4 but otherwise VERY low-end, no external video card, etc). Also my dxdiag utility says I'm running DirectX 12 apparently but also no longer allows me to perform any tests.
Like I said before, I've had zero problems with running UT on this junker before that last Version update borked everything up. I guess if worse comes to worst I have a couple other machines I can use. One's a Windows 98 gaming PC and the other dual-boots Linux Mint/very early Windows 10.
Honestly, I've just about lost my patience for this mess.

I see some lines in the above that are cause for concern. Those warning lines. I have seen this before but I am forgetting. It seams some D3D driver may be missing is what I suspect. The BEST person to answer this would be Doc Flay (aka Dr.Flay). He has been busy offline lately but he will be back soon to help you I am sure! Stay tuned

Thanks. I'd really like to get this sorted. I had tried changing the video device but no matter the renderer I chose, the log still gave me those same warning lines.

Thanks much, chamberly. I had a D3Ddrv dll file but apparently it was a different version (it was about 4x the filesize of the one you sent). UT still crashes but this time it at least makes it to the black screen from right before the intro movie. Here is the new log.

medor I tried installing that but it errors out. Says it can't find ShortcutMaker.exe even though it's in the UT directory where the files are being unpacked...

You don't read readme ^^
This is because you try to change the destination
if you want really move it .... move the folder after installation or open the exe with winrar and move the folder without installation , that work to

Small update... Nothing I've tried so far has worked so I'm gonna let this stew for a while. I'm tired of messing with it anyway.
Also since I'm here, I'm dealing with some heavy stuff so I'm probably going to be pretty much absent for a while. Don't want you thinking I've forgotten about you guys.

So sorry to hear UT is still not working on your comp. It is probably some simple setting on your comp and/or UT game installation that is unique. Again, I wish Dr.Flay was back with us! - soon I hope!!! He is very good at these types of problems. Maybe then we can get it all sorted out. Understood, but please do stop in here when you are able and at least chat with us! Thank you MajorTom
