I'm amazed how long people will wait on package downloads, this is a :To Admins question. Where do you draw the line on Skins, mods, voices etc. To avoid package insanity.
What we (DLD) run below:
[Engine.GameEngine] CacheSizeMegs=4 UseSound=True ServerActors=IpDrv.UdpBeacon ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerQuery ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=unreal.epicgames.com MasterServerPort=27900 ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master.333networks.com MasterServerPort=27900 ServerActors=UWeb.WebServer ServerActors=CSHP4UTD_v4_11.CSHPServerActor ServerPackages=CSHP4UTD_v4_11 ServerPackages=SoldierSkins ServerPackages=SoldierGirl ServerPackages=SGirlSkins ServerPackages=SGirlSkins_War ServerPackages=SoldierSkins_Hkil ServerPackages=Homer Serverpackages=voce Serverpackages=vengeancex ServerPackages=Revenge ServerPackages=Botpack
[vengeancex.relic] passwordb=100010100
Open for discussion. For the players, how long is too long on your end?

If you ave redirect there is no limit for good packages. Just one rule. If you ave iptocountry you can't ave more 50 lines cumulated ServerActors and Serverpackages .... after that you ave a lot of bugs comings.

I like to limit skins to regulars that like to play and if he map has a HUGE file that doesnt compress well then i dont use it. And I avoid maps that require large mods. That way things are snappy and quick with my servers.

Good way to run a UT server Sir Mandrake! The only lengthy download complaint I have heard on our HUTP servers is the Food Fight mod. I considered removing FF for that reason, but still resist because CMM is currently still the only "Official" Food Fight server there is.

Good way to run a UT server Sir Mandrake! The only lengthy download complaint I have heard on our HUTP servers is the Food Fight mod. I considered removing FF for that reason, but still resist because CMM is currently still the only "Official" Food Fight server there is. I tried to get on CMM last weekend but the food fight download was taking too long. 2 things you could prob do to resolve this Hook is 1, double check that everything is compressed and placed on the redirect for food fight. A bad or missing file on the redirect will force your server to send it, unless you have server downloads turned off in the .ini then the client will simply fiail to start the map. 2 - (and you may already have this done) provide a download package for large files that take time to download. People can download and place the files in the respective but folders and when they play CMM and Food Fight is going , bam , instant connection . Basically a sticky post in the CMM section - “Essential files for playing on CMM”

The redirrect is automatic so no need to compress files. Files auto-compress. Your last suggestion to add an essential file list for CMM is on my to-do list already. Stay tuned... PS: players CAN download FF on their own though
