HUTP - A Checkered History! ...
I have been thinking of Posting about our checkered history here at HUTP.
Well, THIS is it ...
... HUTP / Hook's UT Place / Hook's Unreal Tournament Place
- a thread about our History and our UT Community accomplishments.
I believe that the first UT Site and Person I met online was a man named (last name) Greyson or Grayson.
I think his first name was Tom or Jim, but I am not sure. - Tom Greyson?
His online username / nickname was ??? <-(to come - gotta remember it)
At any rate, one of the maps he authored was DM-JumpCity.
Anyway, Greyson had one of the original sub-websites hosted by FilePlanet.
He had some great information on his site, and also a few mods that he and his friend had written.
He also had authored several pretty good maps too!
He and I chatted quite a bit and I learned more about having online sites.
Until then I knew very little about websites.
After a year or two, I was mapping a bit, and Greyson talked me into setting up my own UT site.
That is when I did some searching and found out about MSN groups, where you can have your own BBS and site hosted for free by MSN.
I went for it.
Our new member here, Carlos, was one of the original members of that first HUTP site and BBS (Bulletin Board System).
Hermskii and RAIN were also, and I am sure several others that are around still.
I think we even had a few of the Original UT authors as members too, as I used to chat directly with Cliffy B., Cedric "innoxx" Fierentino (author of CTF-Face) and others too.
How did I arrive at the name?
I believe it was influenced by RAIN's UT site, then called: "RAIN'S UNREAL TOURNAMENT PLACE"
RAIN and I chatted a lot when I was a newbie to UT sites.
So, when I first put in a name for my first site/BBS forum it just came out as "Hook's Unreal Tournament Place".
We were very successful with the first 3 sites/forums for HUTP.
As amny of you know, tapatalk took over our last (3rd) forum and ruined it.
So, we started all over once again on our 4th HUTP - right here!
Stay tuned for more on the History and Achievements of HUTP - to come! ...
PS: We Encourage ALL members to add to this thread with their posts.
Add memories from HUTP here, such as how you got involved here.
Members can post as usual and is very desired!
