Playing OUR Family of Servers? ...
I would like to discuss our HUTP UT Servers family - specifically, Playing OUR Family of HUTP Servers!
Of course {CMM} and {CLD} get played quite a bit and are both usually in the Top 50 at Game Tracker, and so is the Main DLD server, but what about the other HUTP UT Servers?
I have been playing a few of them when I get time, mainly the **UNIMATRIX01** BATTLE SERVER!, and also the [PURE] [=PR=] Instagib/NWBoost/Duel server.
I have been thinking about ways to play ALL of our HUTP UT Servers. Maybe some sort of Schedule? - such as certain times to show up at certain servers? Or, maybe just choose the servers for some fun nights and we send out a notice? Something like this.
Any ideas?

I would say to: 1 - Keep it simple. 2 - Make sure all potential players can or will be notified of each HUTP UT Server's play event. and a possible suggestion or 2 ... 3 - Maybe have a poll for the players to vote on which server to play at on a given day or days? 4 - Maybe play more than 1 of the servers, say 2 or even 3 servers in a row at certain times? That way more of them get played each week.

All very good ideas! At any rate, I am also working behind the scenes to figure out and create some sort of Notifications and Indicators for our HUTP UT Server Players so they/we would know when and where we are playing. That way, we would all be on the same page for showing up on our servers for Play Events. We DO have an HUTP Calendar at our disposal here - maybe we could incorporate (use) that for our purposes too! (I have to research it to see what it can do for us) EDIT: The HUTP Calendar does appear useful for this in some ways, however it appears that it does Not do notifications. I will have to do some tests with the Calendar to determine just what it is able to do for us. Any ideas from any other members? ...

Good Idea here! I haven't looked but if there is some open source PHP server side script that can be installed to accomplish the scheduling and notification, Myself or someone would probably be willing to host it on our own host. Knowing that hook wouldn't be able to directly install something like this on freeforums, we can help in that aspect, and then Hook can log in and do the Administrative stuff.

Thanks Sir Mandrake! We can keep that in mind for sure.
This is all still On the Burner, and I will devote some more thought to implementing it here at HUTP.
Basically, we need to Note Playing Events (dates and times) on each of our HUTP Servers, and also Notify both the Potential and Regular players about the events. (Notifications VIA email and maybe a web page to view probably) The forum CAN handle this I am pretty darn sure.
Mainly, I just want to utilize the Best/Easy way to accomplish this.
Stay Tuned folks! ...

What it sounds like we need to use is a general mailer, like PHPmail. Basically you set up groups of interests, for example... HUTP General News and HUTP Game nights. People subscribe to the group they are interested in by submitting their email address. You Hook, will create a news post about an event happening for that group and it sends it to all the people subscribed to that group.
Now, technically the forum can do the same thing. Make a new Forum or thread and people subscribed to that thread. Any postings to that thread they will be notified of the new post.
With PHPmail you have more control when the news is posted and more features as to how you want the news to look. I have set up a couple Mailing systems for clients in the past.

I am thinking I would like to keep this a function of this forum - I think. I just entered into the HUTP Calendar a false event. I want to see if anything happens

I will certainly let you guys know in advance of any upcoming events on the [=PR=] server and I know at least a couple of us would be interested in getting some organized games going on other servers within our network. Sounds like a great plan!

NOTE: This is all still in the planning stages, so your input is most helpful.

FYI ... To receive an email notification about HUTP Server Play Events. (and Other things as well) When we place an HUTP Server Play Event in the HUTP Calendar, a forum thread is created as well. This forum thread will be created in the " Unreal Tournament 99/G.O.T.Y. - *GAMES ONLINE*" section. FYI - We can also do it the other way around, creating a Post of a Server Player Event in the " Unreal Tournament 99/G.O.T.Y. - *GAMES ONLINE*" section, creating a Calendar Event by clicking on it in the posting edit. Each way accomplishes the same thing. HUTP Members who are also Potential Players (in the *CROSSBONES Gamer* group) should Subscribe to that " Unreal Tournament 99/G.O.T.Y. - *GAMES ONLINE*" Section! ALSO ... People, HUTP Members who are also Potential Players and want to be notified, will need to make sure that their forum settings are Set to Allow Notifications: Go into your " Profile" then click on the " Edit Profile" button on the right. Once there, click on the " Notifications" tab. Then ... Set New Thread and New Post to DAILY - That way if the Forum gets busy you wont be hammered with a bunch of emails every time someone makes a post. - You will get notified once a day of ALL forum activity. Set Participated to SMART - You will be notified of a new post in a thread you've posted in, one time only. - You will Not get any more notifications unless you go back and participate with another post. Anything else that affects you directly or personally, like a friend request or if someone quotes me, are all set to Immediate notification. The above are good notification settings and they work well. You will be kept up to date with most all HUTP forum activity this way. CREDIT: The above was mostly from the mind of Sir Mandrake NOTE: We Probably will post the above events to the: Unreal Tournament 99/G.O.T.Y. - *GAMES ONLINE* section. (we will probably post these HUTP Server Play Events to ONE board above, so you may only need to have notifications set for That Particular board or section) To set Notifications for a Single Section ... (to come) ...

So far, so good! This works pretty well, however now we just need it to connect the dots so to speak. (I currently only included myself on the play event notification email) If players want to find out where (what server) to play at, and when, they can, or could, merely just check our HUTP Calendar for our UT server play events. Players can also be included in the list of recipients of the play event notification email that is sent out to all on that list. I will also need to create a board section dedicated solely for the Calendar posting of the play events. I will be testing this again soon, and most likely with a live list of players on the play event notification email. NOTE: HUTP Members that are in the *CROSSBONES Gamer* group here will be on that email notification list. Stay tuned folks ...
