A Quick UT Cache File Grabbing Tutorial! (NO Apps Needed at all!)
HOW TO Retrieve Files Downloaded from UT99 Servers without using a Cache Cleaner!
Here is a VERY easy way to grab Maps and Files from your UT Cache - Without using a cache cleaner!
OR, a Quick UT Cache file-grabbing Tutorial!
I actually do this instead of using a Cache Cleaner! - NO Application(s) needed at all!
GO to your UnrealTournament Folder and OPEN it. - Usually-> C:\UnrealTournament
OPEN your UT Cache Folder. - Usually-> C:\UnrealTournament\Cache
In your UT Cache folder, in a Separate Window, OPEN the UT Cache.ini file using NotePad.
- Usually-> C:\UnrealTournament\Cache\Cache.ini
You should now have TWO (2) separate windows Open on your desk top.
1) Your UT Cache Folder.
2) Your UT Cache.ini file.
* At this point you (probably) just might Guess what you do now. LOL *
IF you have entered any servers and needed to and have downloaded any files to do so...
...In your UT Cache folder, you should see a listing of those downloaded files.
The file names will be a long Alpha-Numeric name and they will be in the order that they were downloaded.
This Alpha-Numeric name is a Unique "Number" that UT gives Each file.
Any file that UT produces and uses has this Uniquely Assigned Alpha-Numeric number/name embedded right in it.
Maps, Music, Sounds, Mods, Textures, etc. - Anything UT!
When your UT game downloads files from a server it puts these files into your UT Cache folder, but with this Alpha-Numeric name instead of the file's "common" name.
Example: The map ??? has the UT File number ??? in your UT Cache Folder.
That Uniquely Assigned Alpha-Numeric number will never change unless the file is re-saved or even just saved - this is what causes a File Mis-Match error!
FYI - Never Ever Save an existing UT file unless you Re-Name it!!!
You can Copy and Paste a file you do not intend on changing.
In your UT Cache.ini file you will see this Same Alpha-Numeric file name on each file AND also the "common" UT file name associated with that file all in the same line.
And again, they will be in the order that they were downloaded.
This would be the Same order as the files in the UT Cache folder are listed.
UT adds the File's Same Alpha-Numeric file name of each file AND also the "common" UT file name associated with that file as a listing in your UT Cache.ini file also and all in the same line.
This is just the file NAME and Not the actual file in your UT Cache.ini file - the Cache folder has the actual file in that folder.
TO BE CONTINUED/Finished SOON!... (my time ran out) oops!
Also, I have to check ACTUAL File Names to make sure they are correct!
